PB general meeting minutes, 10/29
So Deb sent the minutes out really fast last week. Now, of course, I have to
live up to these new standards and, consequently, give up my Monday night
tradition of falling asleep before 9 pm. Leave it to a sternie to outdo you,
then make you pay dearly for your inadequacy.
First things first: somebody stole our Program Board "Membership mASScot of
the Month" from the wall by the publicity rack. What gives? Jamie Hammer
EARNED that spot in our office. Now all we have is a Fat Joe / Bra Model
hybrid. To the thief: I hope you're happy.
Now, on to the meeting:
We started out with a visit from Patrick (uh...I think that was his name),
an NYU alum (again, I think) and magician. "Aces of Magic 4" was happening
tonight, so he wanted to remind all of us that magic sure as hell isn't as
cool as it was when we were kids. He did a card trick with Jamie.S, whom he
described as "someone who marches to the beat of her own drum." This was
because she was wearing a hat.
The Kinsey Sicks event was tonight, so Liz wasn't at the meeting. Her
Absolutely Not Magnetic Poetry event was last week and it turned out cool.
Except for the burns on my retinas. Old school projectors will blind you,
kids. Just like laser pointers. Never forget it.
Also, Kudos to Marya for managing the Kinsey Sicks event. It takes some
pretty huge man yams to wrangle a bunch of singing drag queens - a truth
with which I am all too familiar.
China says thanks to everyone who helped out with American Gangster. Also,
Bee Movie is tomorrow at Loews at 3rd and 11th. Sign up to work! After the
working list is full you can sign up for the guest list. If you're working,
be there by 6:45. If you're on the guest list, be there NO LATER than 7:30.
The movie is about Jerry Seinfeld eating bees.
Brenda is working with our new webmaster, Aditi, on "revamping" the website,
despite the fact that it was never vamped in the first place.
Student Arts Committee Report...
AMY: "Last Friday we had a coffeehouse co-sponsored with Gallatone records."
LILY: "Will you be having another one?"
AMY: (firmly) "No."
Kyle threw a kick-ass pumpkin carving party last Thursday. This involved
carrying a birch beer keg from Hoboken. This has earned him the right to
"not thinking about Program Board for the next few weeks" - a right he
proudly announced his intent to exercise at tonight's meeting. Basically,
he's going to be phoning it in until the holiday party.
That brings us to a very special announcement: IF YOU HAVE A SWEET
APARTMENT, YOU SHOULD VOLUNTEER TO HOST THE PB HOLIDAY PARTY!! THERE ARE
BENEFITS!!
Mike Crowley would like you to know that the url for the PB blog is
http://programboardblog.blogspot.com. He would like you to send him your
pictures of PB events.
Jamie.F had a terrible day. The film from her cameras was not processed on
time and, to make matters worse, she was badmouthed in Mandarin by the women
working at the photo shop. She understood every word of it, and arrived at
the Program Board meeting dejected and emotionally fragile. It broke my
little heart. Also, she is planning the exhibition for the "Photo Hunt"
project and the opening party. Keep your eye out for an email about a
meeting.
Mad G is bringing the Mountain Goats on Nov 29. She's starting to plan
publicity. However, no contracts are signed yet, so if you tell anyone about
the show, you didn't hear it from us.
Raisa's film committee screened Grindhouse last week (with costumes!) and it
went very well. No film tonight. Next week, see John Travolta as the woman
that he always wished Xenu would have made him in Hairspray. The week after
that, 300 is playing. That's about the time I KICKED ASS at last year's
bowling party.
Jamie.S is having a meeting on Wednesday at 3:30 to try to come up with
ideas for her next event, which isn't until next semester. She got a little
sassy and told us all to "make a sacrifice" and push back our Halloween
night plans a bit so that we can come to her meeting. I think she was just
pissed off at that magic guy for labeling her.
Performing arts is having an Event on Sat, Nov 10 on the 8th floor of
Kimmel. Mary and Meredith need your TVs!! If you have old ones that you
aren't using, give them to them! If you have one that you can lend to them
briefly, do it!! There will be cupcakes at their event (made from TVs)!!
There was a New Music proposal for a show with Excepter and Blues Control to
be held in E&L on Thurs, Dec 6th. Kyle described them as ambient noise
bands, along the lines of Hella. The proposal was passed.
And, finally, the winners of the Strawberry Fest Committee Co-Chair election
are....
...Allie Nudelman and Ashish Garg
I won't be around this year to be the Strawberry, so start casting now.
Nighty night,
Ben

Iron Chef Picture Post
Yo homies! Iron Chef was totes dopecity, USA! We got free foods (mmmm hummus) and even board games! Except more like bored games because my friends and I attempted to play it when we got home and it was pretty slow moving and just left us feeling hungry. BUT some lucky ones got nice aprons with sweet Iron Chef graphics on them to look fierce in the kitchen. The drawing for that was pretty cut throat because there were only 4 aprons, and about 40 PBers who longed for them. The show was good, the food was good, all in all I would give the event a 6.8 out of Awesome.
